So what is Counselling?

About CounsellingCounselling is a process which assists individuals to focus on their particular concerns or difficulties, whilst also addressing and exploring specific problems, making choices, managing issues, working through feelings of inner conflict and improving relationships with others.

Counselling enables individuals to gain a better understanding of themselves and situations, as well as developing ways of managing change.

Counselling is helpful when individuals or couples feel ‘stuck’ or unable to move forward with life. Clients may have symptoms of depression or be suffering from feelings of loss or isolation or be struggling to find a sense of direction.

The goal of any talking treatment is the individual's increased self-awareness, skill acquisition and independence. During therapy, individuals may sometimes develop some feelings of reliance upon the therapist. Although a normal reaction it can, at times, feel worrying. But a professional therapist knows exactly how to handle these feelings and is genuinely interested in helping you make progress.
